Summary


At the local service a lively chaplain led us through several carols before letting on, in hearty Scottish dialect, 'That was just a warm-up!' Our little cousin Flora, who lives in St Andrews, speaks in refreshing Scottish tones but for Freddie and me the accent is a source of intrigue and sometimes confusion. When at last our female priest arrived and thanked us all for coming, one drunken youth responded, 'Thunk you'.
